3. Basic Digital Photography
Mon., 9-10:15 a.m.
This course will teach basic digital photography. From opening the
box to taking great photographs, it all starts with the first few steps.

4. Computing I
Mon., Wed., 9-10:15 a.m.
This is the first course in a three-course progression. This beginner
course is for anyone who wants to learn how to use a computer. The
student will be introduced to the parts of a computer, the desktop
and basic computing. Students should own or have access to a
computer to practice their skills. $15 course fee.

5. Clay: Wheel Thrown
Mon., Wed., 9-11:30 a.m.
Beginners start with making basic wheel-formed pottery while
returning students refine their skills and learn advanced techniques.
Clay may be purchased from the CNU bookstore. The amount of
ware equated to 10 5”x5” pots will be fired for each student without
charge. Ware exceeding this limit will incur a firing fee of 2.5 cents
per cubic inch. (No math required — a spreadsheet will figure this
out!) Sign up for class #5 or #29, not both. Requires a check for $5
glaze fee made out to CNUEF. Limited enrollment.

6. Beginning Spanish

For beginners with limited or no exposure who want to learn the basics of conversing in Spanish for travel and fun. $30 course fee. 10 week course.

This course is designed for beginners who want to learn basics of
travel and daily life conversations in Chinese. You are expected to
study the basic skills of pronunciation, listening and reading. 10 week course.

8. Computing III

Students should have completed Computer II before they enroll in
this course. We will continue with more Microsoft Word topics.
Students will learn to sort and create bullets, lists and tables.

13. Tai Chi at the Yoder Barn

On Tuesday exercise to improve balance, strength and flexibility
with Kasey Cyr-Robert, and on Thursday improve flexibility, strength
circulation and edurance through Tai Chi exercises with Thanh

14. Practicing Poetry

15. Arabic II

This course is a continuation of Arabic I taught last fall. In this course
students will learn the Arabic alphabet, basic grammar, punctuation
and rules to write Arabic. Throughout the course, students will learn
how to read and speak classical and modern Arabic. 10 week course.

16. Six Wives
"Tues., 1-2:15 p.m.
“Divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived." This
course will look beyond the quoted epithet to explore the lives and
influence of the women who, through marriage to Henry VIII,
became memorable figures in English history.

17. The Origins of World War I
Tues., 2:30-3:45 p.m.
Europe was transformed after 1850. The creation of a unified Italy
and Germany completed the triumph of the nation state and
launched a new and more aggressive rivalry among the states. Industrialization changed the structure of society and economy.
Rising tensions exploded in a great war in 1914 that left the old order
a shattered wreck.

This will be a discussion of the contributions of scientists who have
had a major effect on our lives and the societal situations in which
they operated. It will include both historical and recent situations from

24. The Glory of Italian Opera, Part II

Two favorites of Italian opera are Puccini's Tosca and Rossini's
The Barber of Seville. Tosca, once famously called a "shabby little
shocker," is perhaps the least boring opera ever written, and
The Barber is simply the greatest situation comedy ever written.

25. Black Sea/Caucasus Region Security Issues
Fri., 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
This course will analyze the security issues of this vital and important
region of the world. Such issues will include energy security, nuclear
security and human security as well as security issues resulting from
the clash of East versus West, authoritarianism versus democracy,
which are becoming more prevalent as NATO and/or the EU expands
into the region.
