27. Aerobics
(same as course #2, session A)
Mon., Wed., Fri., 9-10:15 a.m.
A conditioning program to improve your strength, balance, range of motion, muscular and cardiovascular endurance. $25 course fee.

28. Computing II
Mon., Wed., 9-10:15 a.m.
Students should have completed Computing I before enrolling in this course. Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Word. Students should own or have access to a computer to practice their skills.
$15 course fee

To Top29. Ceramic Glaze-Making Class
Mon., Wed., 9-11:30 a.m.
For students who are interested in learning to test and make their own glazes. Some wheel work will also be done, but teaching emphasis will be on glaze-testing procedures. Clay may be purchased from CNU bookstore. Students will make test tiles, search for glaze recipes, and make small test samples of glaze with various color additions, with the goal of finally making a gallon of glaze each for themselves. Firing limits on thrown ware will apply the same as for class #5. Register for either class #5 or #29, not both. Requires a check for $15 glaze fee made out to CNUEF. Limited enrollment. $30 course fee.

For members who have had an intermediate Spanish course, have a good basic command of the language and wish to refine communication skills relative to specific topics. $15 course fee.

32. Symphony Backstage
Mon., 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Learn about the symphony orchestra on both sides of the curtain. Who picks the music? What do the musicians wear? What should they rehearse first? Learn the ins and outs through experiences from musicians, conductors and staff of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

Toward the end of the 13th century B.C. an era of relative prosperity and stability came to a shattering end. Today some scholars and archeologists blame those catastrophes on war-like bands, who Pharaoh Ramses III called "Sea Peoples. Syllabus fee $3.

37. Tai Chi at the Yoder Barn

Tues, Thurs., 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
On Tuesday exercise to improve balance, strength and flexibility with Kasey Cyr-Robert, and on Thursday improve flexibility, strength circulation and edurance through Tai Chi exercises with Thanh Smith. $15 course fee.

38. Innovations on Primitive Art
Tues., 1-2:15 p.m.
This course will give students a new, sightful look at primitive art. In the first half we will survey selected primitive arts, focusing on objects from Oceania, Africa and Northwest Coast Indian cultures. The balance will be devoted to the influences of primitivism on modern art.

We will discuss basic Islamic theology, compare major themes in the Qur’an and the Bible, and explore Jesus and Mary in the Islamic scripture.

41. Jane Austen: The Early Novels

We will read Jane Austen’s first two completed novels, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility, to see how she began her writing career and laid the foundations for her more mature work.

Mariners’ Museum curators and scholars will discuss how artists have illustrated mankind’s relationship to the sea through vivid paintings, detailed drawings, exquisite models and other art forms. Lectures will include a look into the newest exhibit, Building Better Ships.

47. Overview of Space Exploration to Date and Plans for the Future
Thurs., 1-2:15 p.m.
The great revolution in the understanding of our solar system, made possible by extensive international exploration by robotic spacecraft over the past 40-plus years, will be presented. A new model of the solar system, adopted since the "demotion of Pluto," will be described. Extensive graphics and models will be used.

48. Learning the Fundamentals of Music Through Listening

This course will apply basic fundamentals of music theory and aural skills into guided listening experiences. By knowing more about melody, rhythm, harmony, texture and form, listening experiences will be enhanced.
